CIRCLES

Circle:        Every point on a circle is equidistance from some fixed point, which is the center. A circle is divided into 360 degrees. Only one circle can pass through three points not in a straight line.

Chord:         A length of line or segment connecting two points on a circle.

Diameter:      Length of line (chord) passing through the center of a circle

Radius:        A line Segment connecting the center of a circle to any point on the circle. The dimension is half that of a diameter.

Tangent:       A line which has only one point touching the circle. A tangent is always perpendicular to the radius.

Arc:           Is part of a circle.

Pi:            The ratio of the diameter of a circle to its circum­ference. The symbol for Pi is p.    Pi=(3.141592654)

Circumference: The distance around a circle (the perimeter). The cir­cumference = diameter x p
